How low?

I love that this is all about the bass and nothing else. Good but not as good as "Bassgasm (Ultimate Woofer Test)" by Techmaster P.E.B.

shesmackshard responds:

As much bass as I DO have, this isn't an intended bass test. Just a beat. Thanks for the review nonetheless.

Would be better if it wasn't so stiff.

I'm normally a massive fan of quantization but maybe not for a solo piano piece. Maybe you could get a pianist to play it and record the midi - or record a performance yourself if you have the chops on keyboard.
But I suspect from the way you've got the loop bang on that you know what you're doing.

NegativeNine responds:

I agree completely, I hate the fact that it has to be so stiff and rigid it really takes emotion out of the piece (and all the other piano pieces I've uploaded to NG).

My situation is, unfortunately, I'm at university and don't have any space at all for my piano. I'd barely have space for a 3 octave piano. I amm stricken by the curse of student lifestyle. Therefore the demo of FL is my only creative outlet.

Think of it what you will, just know that in terms of production quality I completely agree with you.

Not very experimental.

Nice tune BUT I can't hear anything experimental about this track. The echo on the handclaps perhaps.
On a more technical note, the drums aren't really loud enough for the genre and as a result the white noise in the synths is making the whole track sound slightly fuzzy.

Airprogressive responds:

It doesn't have to sound experimental. The original track was called Experiment and the remix has to have the same name xD

hmm... you're probably right about the drums. But many italian songs have soft drums like this one

Pleasant enough

This is a pleasant enough ditty with some good strings. If you were going to improve it you could look at the bass sound and the keytar sound and give it another quick mix, maybe a bit of reverb somewhere. Drums are a bit dry.

T-Free responds:

Thanks for the criticism, robothair! I'm glad you liked it, I will work on it again with considering what you said.^^

Video game rip off

Cover versions & remixes of video game themes aren't original works.
But don't worry no one will sue you. No one will want to use it because of the cheap sounds & low production values (over compressed and very quiet at the same time - try normalising mixes after you bounce them or watching the meters when you mix)

Cam3leon responds:

Well thanks for acknowledging that I'm not the only one that makes these remixes. But if I may clarify, this is merely an arrangement; I don't claim to give birth to this property, only the different spin I did on the existing song.

I have my own original works, but the fact is that I love video game music and I love the idea of breathing new life into the compositions that inspired me. If you don't like the concept, please don't listen, unless you intend to downvote every composer that practices this.

But I appreciate the fact that you actually gave me some pointers this time around, though you didn't have to completely blast my work to do so. I'm still learning the ropes of FL Studio, where I got the bulk of my samples from, but I will see about normalizing the sounds better. Thank you.

I like to move it move it.

The production values aren't sky high and the synth riff is almost identical to 90s club hit "I like to move it" by Reel 2 Reel. A deeply unoriginal work in a cliched style.

Catstuffer responds:

Thanks! :D Glad you think its like the original! thats what I was shooting for XD

"some tunes you might recognize" = a ripoff

"some tunes you might recognize" ie not your own work. That is a bad thing. Also it sounds like it was made in about 1989 and recorded on a cassette.

Cam3leon responds:

Dude, it's called a remix. They're songs from the Mario games. I never claim to compose this stuff. Look up the Video Game section sometime; you'll see I'm not alone on this.

And while you fail to specify what about this song makes it sound as if it were from 1989/a cassette tape (sound quality, arrangement, the samples, etc.), at the very least I can say I got the retro feel down. So thanx for pointing that out ;)

Seriously, CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is appreciated. But thanks for the feedback regardless.
